Fashion as a Force for Good

April 12, 2022

An introduction to BCorp certification for fashion companies

What do Veja, Patagonia, Mud Jeans and the Vestiaire Collective have in common? All four of these respected fashion companies are BCorp certified and thereby a part of the global movement to make business a force for good. Developed by the BLab organisation, BCorp certification is awarded to companies that meet high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency. By consciously addressing the needs of all their stakeholders, including workers, customers, the community and the environment, these companies seek to use the power of their business to bring about positive change.

Are you interested in having your company join the BCorp movement? Would you like your business to play a role in resetting the norms in the fashion industry? The Impact Assessment tool, used to assess a company’s eligibility to become a BCorp, is a valuable (free) tool for all companies that want to start the journey. Whether you are running a start-up or your company has been in business for a while, the tool allows you to identify which operational practices you can improve as well as how you can increase your impact.
During our this webinar, we will give an introduction – aimed specifically at the fashion industry – to BLab, the BCorp certification and the Impact Assessment tool. We will talk about the way BCorp certification works, the reasons you may want to certify and what the practical implications are. We will also give an overview of how the Impact Assessment is set up, the type of questions you will come across and the output you can obtain from using the tool, whether you seek certification or are just seeking a framework to bring about improvements in your business.

Proceeds from the live edition have been donated to UNHCR to support Ukrainian and other refugees.

After four years of hosting more than 50 knowledge sharing and networking events, connecting sustainability and fashion professionals with each other, we have decided to stop the activities we were doing under Good Brand Guru from 2023 onwards.

With equal passion and perseverance, we are continuing to strive for a better textile and clothing industry.

We are doing this through different projects, including helping companies to become BCorp and working with Fibershed at both a Dutch and European level. The Fibershed movement seeks to develop regional fiber systems that build soil and protect the health of our biosphere. Working with a soil-to-soil vision, we are rebuilding local, collaborative supply networks that are inherently fair, circular and regenerative.

We look forward to staying in touch,

Warm regards,
