Losing ground to climate change, this Alaskan community resolves to save itself.

Join us for the online screening “Newtok – The Water is Rising” followed by a discussion about the film with other professionals from our network that are passionate about sustainability.

Although not directly linked to fashion, we are keen to view this important documentary to be even more conscious of the true implications of going on with ‘business as usual’. We hope that viewing this film together will provide feed for conversation and a renewed drive to pursue our respective work in the field of sustainability.

Water will erase Newtok, Alaska. Built on a delta at the edge of the Bering Sea, the tiny Yup’ik village has been dealing with melting permafrost, river erosion, and decaying infrastructure for decades. To keep their culture and community intact, the 360 Yup’ik residents must relocate their entire village to stable ground upriver while facing a federal government that has failed to take appropriate action to combat climate change. In moving their village, they will become some of America’s first 21st-century climate refugees. It is a film about of a village seeking justice in the face of climate disaster.

This movie will be screened once via Good Brand Guru and will not be recorded or available via our channels post-screening.

Supporters and members of the Good Brand Guru network will receive a personal invite to attend this event free of charge. Sign up as a supporter here.

After four years of hosting more than 50 knowledge sharing and networking events, connecting sustainability and fashion professionals with each other, we have decided to stop the activities we were doing under Good Brand Guru from 2023 onwards.

With equal passion and perseverance, we are continuing to strive for a better textile and clothing industry.

We are doing this through different projects, including helping companies to become BCorp and working with Fibershed at both a Dutch and European level. The Fibershed movement seeks to develop regional fiber systems that build soil and protect the health of our biosphere. Working with a soil-to-soil vision, we are rebuilding local, collaborative supply networks that are inherently fair, circular and regenerative.

If you would like to learn how you can join us in this new chapter, please get in touch through: info@fibershed.nl

We look forward to staying in touch,

Warm regards,

Bryony & Martine
